KMTC Partners & Links

Once again the Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club has been awarded a grant from our trail stewardship partner, REI!! We were endorsed for a $10,000 award by REI in March and invited to submit a 2013 grant proposal. Mark Gialanella, Atlanta Market Outreach Specialist, congratulated us and stated: “KMTC is a wonderful organization and your efforts are a textbook example of the positive impact a trail club can have on outdoor recreation and stewardship….Keep up the good work!”

Grant funds have been approved for trail improvements in the northern section of the park near Kennesaw Mountain, the middle section on the Noses Creek Trail, and at the southern section near Cheatham Hill. We have much work to do in preparation for the 150th Anniversary of the Atlanta Campaign, when the NPS is expecting approximately 70,000 park visitors over the 9-day event. The 150th Anniversary schedule will include guided hikes and events to be held throughout the park. REI grant funding will support Trail Club efforts to prepare all the event sites and trails for this unique occasion.

Volunteers will be in great demand for this exciting time at the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Please watch for updates on the websites: http://www.kennesawmountaintrailclub.org (KMTC) and http://www.nps.gov/kemo (KMNBP). If you are interested in getting a head start as a volunteer, please contact Anne Strand at membership@kennesawmountaintrailclub.org
